hello brothers and sisters, music mates of the highest planes and conceptions.

The year 2000 is almost over. I have been on tour doing

SOLO-concerts,DUO,TRIO,QUINTET, moved our new kultband: NEXT GENERATION to

Festival and concert dates and reached millions of people with the projects

of the Braunschweig-based Jazzkantine and Tanzzkantine, a project with the

Staatstheater in Braunschweig, now on tour.Though a very popular oriented (

and very successfull) unit, the Jazzkantine hired me to do what I can do

best, improvise Jazz on my vibraphone the Gunter Hampel-style. Not only am I

reaching the Rap and HipHop Generation, they love what I am doing and yell

for encores, I also can involve the audience in an animation, in which I am

spontaneous conducting the band and the audience ( sometimes up to 12ooo in a

soccer stadium) with my vibraphone mallets, without speaking a word. Over the

years I have developed in my Big Bands a concept of conducting and instant

composing by way of hand signs, and kind of dancing and speaking with my body

to various reed or brass sections and express how and when I like the music

to be played, Free-Jazz Collages,Tuttis, speaking,singing,talking,yelling

sections which I instantly compose in the spur of the moment, live- on stage

with the band and the audience. Finally I have brought the free-jazz freedom

of expression directly to the people. Finally they can participate and being

fully involved doing it, they love it and can't get enough. We had a series

of such unforgettable concerts in front of thousands of exited people at the

EXPO in Hannover.

In 2000 I published a CD, BIRTH o49 THE 9TH of september 1999, A concert from

the Knitting Factory here in New York combined with Studio recordings, which

feature the great talents of the formidable trombonist NILS WOGRAM,

altosaxophonist CHRISTIAN WEIDNER, pianist CLEMES ORTH , with an

afro-american rhythm section of LARRY ROLAND on bass, and SADIQ on drums.

This is the first CD I published, where I solely perform on the VIBRAPHONE.

The CD is fresh and gets very enthusiastic reviews and lots of airplays.

Over the past years we have been moaning about the demise of the great Steve

McCall,Thomas Keyserling,Shaun Vargas, but I am still shaken by the sad news,

that JEANNE LEE has left our planet on Oct 25 th,2000.Though they are gone,

we can still enjoy their music, they have left with us, though I miss them

deeply.

We did a wonderfull Memorial Concert at St.Peters Church in Manhattan with

Abbey Lincoln,Amina Claudine Myers,Sheila Jordan,Bluiett,Gary Bartz ,Ran

Blake and Mickey Davidson a.o.I dedicated a SOLO vibraphone piece in this

great Jazzhistoric church.

I met Marion Brown again, he is at the Manhattanville Nursery,here in New

York and we are planning to do a DUO concert there on January 1o, 2,3o in the

afternoon.

I will add my tourplan, as it stands on December 24 th , for the new year

2001.
